  5. Message-ID: <29827@hydra.gatech.EDU>

  9.
  10. Below are both the ASC and UUE versions of H.Piper! 2.0
  11.
  12. Changes:    - CURVED CORNERS!!!
  13.         - resume game ability!
  14.         - most randomness removed
  15.
  16. RESUME:  Between jobs (i.e. while at the dripping faucet wait
  17.      screen) you can press the decimal (.) key to leave
  18.      the game and go to the regular calculator mode.  The
  19.      total score and level you achieved will be stored in
  20.      the user flags so that next time you start the game,
  21.      you will resume the game as you left it.  Do not
  22.      run the SCORE program or you will lose the resumable
  23.      state.
  24.
  25. RANDOM:  The starting pipe for the first level is still
  26.      placed randomly.  For subsequent levels, however,
  27.      the starting pipe is located on the grid site
  28.      you "leaked" on with the starting direction opposite
  29.      of that you entered.  If you leaked onto the border,
  30.      then the starting pipe is placed on the site you
  31.      leaked from.
  32.      The first five pipes in the queue are selected
  33.      randomly.  Placing a pipe on the grid with the (7)
  34.      key will still randomly select a new pipe to put at
  35.      the top of the queue.  If you press (4) to place
  36.      a pipe, the pipe at the top of the queue will be
  37.      the one currently displayed between the score and
  38.      level indicators.
  39.
  40. General Notes:  Some people have reported assorted problems with
  41.     getting the program to work.  For those who can't get
  42.     ASC-> to work, it works for me.  If one of these people
  43.     would mail me the ASC they are trying to get to work, I
  44.     might be able to find a solution.  For those who can't get
  45.     SCHIP to work with H. Piper, try turning off all alarms
  46.     and date/clock displays.  If any of you have Chipper,
  47.     you might try compiling the v1.2 source code I posted and
  48.     see if you can get it to run from there.  I am really
  49.     sorry for all these problems, but I am at a loss to help
  50.     right now.
  51.
  52. Development Notes:  It is really funny how work involved on
  53.     each aspect of this last update was inversely proportional
  54.     to what I expected.  The rounded corners were much, much
  55.     easier to implement than I thought.  It does increase the
  56.     code size by a hefty chunk, but it took little work.  The
  57.     derandomization of the starting pipe was an absolute
  58.     b:tch.  I had to extensively recode several procedures
  59.     and add some complex testing just to make sure you didn't
  60.     end up having a starting pipe going into a border.
  61.
  62. Program Size:  I have put a semi-rigid limit of 2K on the size
  63.     of the program.  Any improvement that will put it over
  64.     that barrier just won't be worth it. (I will of course
  65.     probably eat these words later.)
  66.
  67. Everyone please keep me informed on your success in getting this
  68. version to run. Also, any comments and suggestions are welcome.
  69.
